However it is stretching things more than a bit to say that the noise constitutes any kind of risk to health or safety. THE appeal to raise enough cash to create Lancaster's very own specialist cancer unit is up and running. And the first day of the Macmillan Appeal to build the £850,000 centre at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary got off to a bumper start last week after generous donations began flooding in. Transport group slates council decision

UPROAR greeted a decision to turn part of Lancaster's bus station into a car park this week. Lancaster City councillors voted unanimously to forge ahead with plans to use land on Damside Street as a short stay car park for the next two years. But members of pressure group Transport 2000 described the decision, which is part of a move to prevent any further development on the site, as a 'whitewash.'  more...

On the road again

DESPAIR turned to joy this week after the Citizen stepped in to help a 13-year-old Lancaster boy who's prize mountain bike was stolen by thieves. Louis Judson was left gutted after his mountain bike, which he won for coming first in a logo competition by Lancaster firm Plas-Tech, disappeared during the Bank Holiday weekend. But it was smiles all round when Plas-Tech handed over another new bike complete with an extra strong lock to stop thieves getting their hands on it again.  more...

Samaritan driver stabbed at roadside

A GOOD Samaritan who stopped to help a teenager, ended up with stab wounds in the stomach and chest. Meningitis girl on mend in Majorca

DOCTORS in Majorca hope five-year-old meningitis victim, Michaela Leyland, will make a full recovery. Michaela, struck down with the illness whilst holidaying at apartments with her family in Magaluf, was able to sit up and play with her dolls while her mum and dad, Les and Jeannette, watched. Michaela, from Moore Avenue, Derbyshire Hill, is still in intensive care at Son Dureta Hospital, Palma.  more...
