Power cut hits 3000 homes

From the Bolton Evening News, first published Friday 15th Aug 1997.

A POWER failure hit 3,000 homes in the Westhoughton and Hindley area last night.

Supplies were off for around 40 minutes from 8.20 pm.

There was another power cut earlier in the day hitting 2,000 Westhoughton homes. Most supplies were restored in less than an hour, but those on The Welland estate, off Wigan Road were disconnected longer.

A Norweb spokesman said that the original power failure was caused by a "slight fracture" of a cable.

Supplies were re-routed to serve The Welland area, but the evening power cut occurred when this system failed.
