The Daily Poem

From the Bolton Evening News, first published Friday 15th Aug 1997.

PROGRESS Another landmark has to come down.

Character is disappearing from our town.

Those photos on Friday made me cringe.

Demolition contractors having a binge.

When will this carnage end?

Concrete and steel is the planners' trend.

We, the older end, appreciate what's gone before.

Hate to see these buildings hit the floor.

Greyhound track, Burnden, Infirmary - gone.

Vacant land waiting to be built on.

'Tis a nightmare to see the sight.

Houses and office blocks spring up overnight. By W Ainscough
