From the Bolton Evening News, first published Friday 15th Aug 1997.
SIR: I reply to 'Dog dirt's a menace'(Your views, July 9). The poor dogs' pads are very soft compared to trolley wheels. They have to endure broken glass, nails in wood, trashed cans and many more items that are cast aside without thought what damage they will do to a dog or any other animal. Then we have the cast away food, beefburgers, sticky toffee, food trays half full. The list is endless. I think our load is light compared to a handicapped person with a guide dog. We can see what a mess our street and parks are in. The handicapped person has no option.
Canine education centres would help the dog owners to care about their pets. But first we must try to educate the town council to spend our tax money in a way that will help everybody.
