Andrew passes his LGV test

From the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, first published Thursday 27th Aug 1998.

ANDREW Ainsworth has repaid the faith of his bosses at Gaskell textiles - and fulfilled a driving ambition.

Andrew, a mechanic and former East Lancashire top apprentice, has now earned himself a Large Goods Vehicle Licence.

When the 21-year-old from Stacksteads won the apprentice award from Training 2000, management at Gaskell Textiles decided to invest in his potential.

Jon Butterworth, the firm's transport manager, said: "Andrew asked whether we would consider putting him through a LGV course and we were more than happy to oblige.

"It didn't surprise us when he came up trumps to get his Class II - now we have put him forward for a Class 1.

"Everyone is benefitting from his progress and he is a real asset to us."

Andrew, a former pupil at All Saint's High School, Rossendale, said: "I have been here since leaving school and my aim is to progress and make myself as useful as possible within the firm's transport division."
