From the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, first published Thursday 27th Aug 1998.
FEW months ago I went a walk down "Memory Lane," in Blackburn - down Feilden Street where I was born, past St Anne's Church, where I was married, up King Street towards King George's Hall, past Tony's Empress Ballroom: in fact, all the places where I spent the happy carefree days of my youth.
I felt glad I was brought up in Blackburn.
That all changed when I read your report "Nightclub 'Orgy' Fear" (LET, August 22).
The very last thing Blackburn or indeed any other town, wants is a strippers' joint.
One thousand women are expected to attend. Can't they find anything better to do with their time?
Who do these "Guys and Dolls" think they are anyway? Haven't they noticed that, stripped off, we're all the same anyway. What a joke.
To the organisers I would say: "Don't give up your day job." Humans are, by nature, restless people - forever looking for something different. They won't stay with you.
I am no longer proud to be a Blackburnian.
To the people who have no pride in their bodies, I would say: "Shame on you."
