TEN YEARS AGO:Train crossing escape

From the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, first published Thursday 27th Aug 1998.

A TRAIN screeched to a halt inches away from a car trapped between crossing barriers at Huncoat. The driver jumped out of the car and tried to push the barrier open after his car became trapped. British Transport Police warned motorists against dashing through closing barriers, saying it was "foolish and irresponsible".
