Bodice-ripping yarn creates sparks

MOST people have to admit to a dangerous liaison in their life at one time or another, writes Sarah Sharp.
But nothing surely with such devastating repercussions as Christopher Hampton's Les Liaisons Dangereuses which opened at Blackpool Grand Theatre this week.
Lacking real passion at the outset, the bawdy bodice-ripping romp with a tragic end soon hotted up with some serious bed-hopping and even a glimpse of naked flesh which certainly woke up those at the back on a Tuesday night.
Sadly the delightfully witty script and many set changes proved a little heavy going for some who took their leave a little early.
And that's a shame as they missed some perfectly timed wry comedy from London's Burning Clive Wood as the vile Vicomte de Valmont.
He created real sparks with Siobhan Redmond's wonderfully wicked and man-mad Marquise de Merteuil, appropriately dressed in deepest scarlet and hiding her rich Scottish accent well with a new plummy voice.
Confusing at times, such as a duel of swords without real explanation, Mobil Touring Theatre's Les Liaisons Dangereuses runs until Saturday (April 22) and is definitely still worth a rendezvous.
