Drug raids police seize heroin

From the Bolton Evening News, first published Monday 29th May 2000.

A LARGE quantity of heroin was recovered by police in a series of house raids in Radcliffe at the weekend aimed at cracking down on street dealing in the town.

Three men and three women were arrested after officers from the divisional drugs unit spent months gathering intelligence and carrying out surveillance.

The raids were carried out at three addresses in Radcliffe on Friday night and Saturday morning.

Det Sgt Steve Horton, who was in charge of the raids, codenamed Operation Pyramid, said: "These arrests illustrate our commitment to stamping out this kind of activity on the streets of Radcliffe.

"I would like to reassure the law-abiding citizens of this community that we will not stand by and allow drug dealing on our streets."

Local MP Ivan Lewis added: "This is an excellent example of a successful police operation which will help to make Radcliffe safer. It is an important victory in our never ending war against the evil drug pushers who do so much damage to our community." Six people were due to appear before Bury magistrates charged with possessing drugs with intent to supply.
