From the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, first published Monday 29th May 2000.
PUB regulars handed over a cheque to a children's charity in memory of a popular father-of-four who died suddenly.
Raymond Guilfoyle, 40, of Clement Street, Accrington, died in the tap room of the Britannia Arms in Nuttall Street.
Raymond had joined regulars from several other Accrington pubs in fund-raisers in aid of Derian House Children's Hospice, Chorley.
On Saturday night the money was handed over to the charity at the Railway Pub, Blackburn Road, in Raymond's memory.
His friend Barry Mitchell, one of the organisers of the fund-raising, said everyone who knew Raymond had been shocked.
He said: "Raymond had played a part in the fund-raising and a lot of people have donated to our appeal following his death.
"In that sense it seemed fitting that we honour Raymond's name by presenting the cheque in his honour."
It is not yet known how Mr Guilfoyle died but friends believe he may have suffered a brain haemorrhage.
