Cricket: Home is away for Unsworth players

UNSWORTH Cricket Club might not be able to play a single match this year at their new ground which was meant to be ready two months ago.
The pavillion is almost complete but the wicket is far from playable
It is frustrating for the club, who were looking forward to an exciting new era after selling their former ground on Parr Lane to a housing company.
In return the builders promised to build a new ground for the club on nearby Pole Lane but the work has dragged on and on . . . and on.
"It is very frustrating," admitted club spokesman Reg Joynson. "The wicket has just been handed over to us but it's not ready for any play yet and I can't tell you when it will be because I don't know.
"It is possible it won't be ready at all this season but the first team will be able to complete all their fixtures by playing them all away from home." Continued

Heavy rain at the start of the year prevented much work from being done but the general feeling at Unsworth is one of unhappiness that the work has taken so long.
The pavillion is almost ready but work still needs to be done on an access road from Pole Lane.
The pitch is the main concern though and the groundstaff will do as much as they can to make it playable at the earliest opportunity.
However, the likliest scenario is no cricket in Unsworth at all this summer which is a shame, especially as the team are having an excellent season with last weekend's superb eight wicket victory one of several wins. Continued from back page Home's away for Unsworth
