I AGREE with George Glasser's letter "Fluoride can mean tooth mottling". In fluoridated areas of the UK, dental mottling is normally high at around 50 per cent. This is known as dental fluorosis where children's teeth develop permanent white or ugly brown mottling, caused by too much fluoride. It can cause children to be bullied and they often need unpleasant dental work such as caps and veneers on their front teeth.   more...

HAVING read the article about on-the-spot fines for litter louts, I'm all for it. But are they going to provide suitable facilities to dispose of lit cigarette ends? It is a fire hazard to drop them in the bin and I haven't seen any on the streets. In the shopping precincts, yes, but not the streets. If smokers were to drop them in the bin and it caused a fire, the smoker would be labelled irresponsible. It seems like a no-win situation.   more...
