A MOTHER has spoken of the mix of pride and fear she feels as she waits for news from her son who has been involved in action in Iraq.
Judith Suttill, aged 48, of Heaton, said she is worried about her son Craig, aged 23, who has been fighting somewhere near Basra with the Irish Guards.
She said: "I am very proud, the whole family is, but at the same time I am terrified of what could happen to him.
"I would give anything to for him to come back, but, as he said, he has been trained to do his job.
"And he was pleased to be going to do that job which I know he will do to the best of his ability."
Despite her fears Judith said that the former Smithills School student had really benefited from his time in the armed forces as it had given him a really positive outlook on life.
His family, including his brothers David, aged 24, and Andrew, aged 11, and his sister Leah, aged 14, are now eagerly waiting to hear from Craig again.
The last time they received communication was one week before the hostilities began but they continue to send him packages in the post and leave messages on his mobile phone.
Judith added: "We know he won't answer but sometimes it is nice to hear his voice. We can't wait to speak to him again."
