From the Bolton Evening News, first published Friday 19th Nov 2004.
I AM writing in regard of the Sports Personality memorial sculpture that was brought to my attention recently.
I think my father, Neville Peter Consterdine, of Rosamond Street, Bolton, fits the bill of local sporting hero as he has played crown green bowls since the early 1960s.
During his career - which we hope will continue into his 75th year - my dad played for numerous Bolton teams in both the parks and mills leagues, for himself in many individual handicap competitions in which he experienced great success, on the semi-professional circuit of 'the Panel' where I used to watch in silent amazement at the skills demonstrated by the top panel players, and, in his proudest bowling moments, for his beloved County of Lancashire. I think he also played for Greater Manchester, but that was never the same thrill for him as playing for Lancashire.
I hope you will pass this note to those responsible to consider him for inclusion on the memorial, as he continues to use his experience to the benefit of the Bolton and District Veteran's Bowling Club League.
