The best things in life are free

From the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, first published Monday 13th Dec 2004.

The long-awaited second film from the directer of Lagaan is finally here.

Ashutosh Gowarikar took modern Bollywood movies to the wider world and even got nominated for an oscar with his first effort.

This time he has Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role who plays a NASA scientist returning to his roots in search of his childhood nanny.

It is a journey that will lead him to re-evaluate his life and everyone he has ever known. Plenty of soul-searching and realising the simple things in life are worth more than money, science and all the inventions the west can throw at modern day India. He finds his nanny in a village called Charanpur and once there he comes across a series of interesting characters.

Mohan (Shah Rukh) slowly develops an affinity with the village folk who are at the crossroads of development.

The film is painfully slow at times but it never wanders from the main storyline like other releases of recent times. And AR Rahman's beautiful soundtrack is a massive bonus.
