'Water' conmen rob woman aged 80

POLICE have issued descriptions of three conmen who stole cash from an 80-year-old woman in her home.

Three white men in their 30s posed as water board workers to get into the property in Haston Lee Avenue, Blackburn, by saying they needed to check water pressure.

They asked the woman to turn on the taps in the bathroom and while one chatted to her the others stole large amount of cash and her bank book.

The first man was about 5ft 8ins, of medium build and with short, dark hair.

He wore workmen's dark overalls with a letter "H" on one of the pockets.

The second was 5ft 11ins with light hair, a short fringe and of medium build.

He wore a grey suit-type jacket and cream and brown trainers.

The other man was 5ft 10ins, slim and medium build. He was wearing a black suit-type jacket, a grey sweat shirt and dark trousers and had short dark brown hair.

Det Con Mark Green of Blackburn CID, said: "We would also advise elderly home owners to never open the door to a stranger without using a chain or a spy hole first

"Also, if you are unsure, ask for identification, which genuine callers will readily provide."
