The hi-tech learners

From the Bolton Evening News, first published Tuesday 1st Feb 2005.

THESE pupils have been taking part in a technological revolution - the town's first video-conference lesson.

Children at Top o'th' Brow primary school received tuition in using computer spreadsheets from IT teacher Darren Carter.

But Mr Carter was several hundred yards away . . . in the comfort of Withins High School's computer suite.

The 24 pupils took part in Mr Carter's lesson via a network of computers and an "active white board" - a large computer screen linked up to Withins.

The master plan is to network together 13 primary schools around Breightmet to allow several schools in the area to be taught at once.

Deputy head teacher at Top o 'th' Brow Beryl Booth said: "The network will allow us to share our expertise with other schools, including Withins, where many of the children from Top o'th' Brow will progress to."
