From the Bolton Evening News, first published Friday 8th Jul 2005.
I AM curious regarding the problems about the amount of recycled waste in Bolton MBC.
If, as the Environmental Services Department assured me at an area forum, that the majority of my waste, which is food packaging, cannot be recycled as it is plastic coated, how am I supposed to reduce this so that I only require a fortnightly collection.
I was assured that as Bolton incinerates its rubbish, and the incinerator is used to produce electricity as a by-product, that in effect this waste is being recycled.
This being so, it would seem to me that the proportion of waste in Bolton which is recycled is in fact the difference between the total weight collected and the total weight going to landfill, which I would guess is a much higher proportion than we are being told.
I am being told that most of my waste is not recyclable one minute, and then that 70 per cent can be. It seems to me that we are not being given the actual facts, but misinformation depending on the particular circumstances prevailing at any one time.
